Limited budget? How to Have a Great Staycation

They say the economy’s getting better, but those ‘better days’ certainly haven’t reached all of us, have they? But even if your kids are getting major ants in their pants and are desperate to see the world. Well, if money’s tight at the moment, it may be best to avoid that expensive holiday abroad. Just for now, anyway.

There are plenty of low-cost options where you can have (almost) as much fun, without splurging unnecessarily. So instead, consider a staycation. Not sure what that is?

Well, it’s where you don’t have the budget to travel, but are interested in having a fun holiday. With a staycation you end up back at home each evening. But during the day, you have lots of fun, and do holiday activities. It just all happens to be in a 50 to a 100-mile radius from your home.

So let’s go through some ideas to create that holiday feeling, while staying closing to home:

A Pool, Not a Beach

Well, if getting to the coast and back will take you more than a day, then make do with a pool perhaps. It’s not quite the same. But, instead of going to the local pool you’ve been doing to since you were knee high, why not go to a pool you’ve never been before.

Even better, if it has a bunch of stuff most pools don’t. For example high-speed slides, and wave machines, that’s an adventure, right?

Great Stuff in Your Area That You’ve Never Visited

We’ve all done it. We spend our lives in a country with amazing places to visit, but tourists end up seeing more of those in a week than we have in our lives! Or even all the historical, cultural, and scenic areas right in our back yard. For example, perhaps you live 20 miles down the road from Windsor Castle but have never been!

Well, join the line of tourists, and go and see the Queen’s second home. It’ll be a fun day out for all the family.

Turn Your Garden into an Island Paradise

Perhaps you’ve never really appreciated your garden, as much as you could. And if the weather’s nice, make the most off it. Get the deck chairs out, have some cold drinks, even go Spanish with some Gazpacho (cold refreshing soup). But don’t spend your entire day in the sun so put parasols up so you can enjoy the day without burning.

Go Trekking

Have you explored all the amazing walks and bike rides in a 20-mile radius from your house? It’s likely you haven’t, and you’ll be amazed at what’s right around the corner from you. So go explore!

Stay at a Bed and Breakfast

Okay, this is bending the rules a little. But what about staying within the 50 to 100-mile radius, but staying overnight at a bed and breakfast? It will be an adventure, lots of fun, and needn’t cost much at all. It also takes the pressure off rushing back home each day.
